Terms You Need To Know

Blackout – Complete loss of power.

Brownout – Decrease in voltage levels.

Spike – An increase in voltage.

Surge- A substantial increase in voltage.

What is a UPS?

UPS stands for Uninterruptible Power Supply and is a device that sits between a wall outlet and a device a computer or computer accessory. It can protect against outages, sags, surges, brownouts, etc.

A UPS has internal batteries to guarantee that continuous power is provided to the equipment even if the power source stops providing power. This interim power only last a short time, from 5 minutes to several hours depending on size and cost, but that is often enough time to ride out a power failure or allow for the proper shut down of the computer and/or equipment.

A UPS performs the following functions:

Absorb relatively small power surges.

Smooth out noisy power sources.

Continue to provide power to equipment during line sags.

Provide power for some time after a blackout has occurred.

Q:	How long can equipment on a UPS keep running after the power goes?

UPSes use lead-acid batteries, and do not have a memory like other types of batteries. Therefore running the batteries to very low or even drained levels will decrease the battery’s effectiveness. As a UPS get older, the battery gets weaker. Eventually the UPS will not provide power for a long enough time to be effective. Most batteries last about 5 years.

What Size UPS Is Needed?

Buying a 600 VA UPS is often pretty reasonable. Buying a bigger UPS will allow you to protect more equipment for a longer time during a power issue. Since most people like to protect additional equipment, like monitors, external hard drives, etc., a good purchase would be 1100 VA or higher. For the average user, this would protect most computers and peripherals and provide at least 15 minutes of standby power. One word of caution – do not plug a printer in to a UPS unit. Printers draw too much power for a typical UPS and will cause the UPS to either malfunction or provided a very short period of standby power.

What brand of UPS is best?

There are a lot of companies that produce and sell UPS units. Through the years, we have found that Cyberpower provides a quality UPS at a reasonable price. Since models change frequently, we usually recommend a Cyberpower unit at or in excess of 1000 VA and we prefer a model that has an LED readout that shows the current status of the UPS as well as the incoming power feed. Below is a picture or a unit with an LED readout.

We do everything we can to keep things as simple and as easy for you, our client, as possible. Therefore, instead of creating a huge “terms of service” information sheet which no one reads, our terms of service are simply what we stated above with a few common sense additions:

We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone, at any time and for any reason. Should we choose to terminate service, a pro-rated refund will be issued.

Unlike other placement services, we do not try and sell you a costly program that will not work. Truth is, if your site is coded properly, the search engines will pick it up; however, it takes time, 6 to 12 months.

In the meantime, we encourage you to use Google AdWords. The service allows placement and budgeting, with targeted qualified leads. Instead of offering you an expensive service, we have you sign up with your AdWords account and then we will help you with your keywords, placements and budget.

Under normal circumstances, $100 per month can increase the targeted, qualified traffic to your web site. By targeting and budgeting, instead of spending $10,000 for 500,000 hits and 1 or two sales, you can spend $1,000 for 200 hits and 20 sales. The key is in optimizing your keywords, target market, and, most importantly, page position.

For a single low consulting fee, usually less than $120, we will help you with all of the above, helping to make your web site productive and profitable.

Simply contact us for a quote and start getting targeted hits within two weeks.

What format is required for materials to be posted to our web site?

Text should be sent in an e-mail, fax or as an electronic document. We do not accept handwritten text due to readability issues.

Due to our significantly reduced fees, we work through electronic communications only. All phone calls or personal contact will be billed at the going rate in 15 minute increments. Promotions, discounts, coupons, contract time, etc., do not apply to phone calls or personal contact and all fees for such service are due and payable immediately upon receipt.

What Are The Steps For Web Site Development
We work exclusively by e-mail. However, all e-mail is tracked within our online project manager. You will be given an e-mail address for our project manager, as soon as your site gets underway.

Once we receive your materials, we will review them and come up with a time estimate. If the estimate exceeds the contracted hours, you will be notified as to our best guess concerning additional charges. If the estimate is within the contracted time, we will proceed with the home page design.

During the home page design phase, we create one page, with a design concept and colors for you to approve. Those colors and the design will carry throughout the web site. If you need changes to the design, and/or a completely new design, we will accommodate as quickly as possible. In our experience, the design of the home page takes from 1-3 hours, depending on how many change you make to the initial design.

Once we have the approved design, we populate the home page, and all additional pages, with the information you provided. This phase usually takes between 2-3 hours.

Upon completion, you are notified and your approval is requested. Spelling corrections and errors on our part are corrected at no cost or charge against your contract. Once we receive your written approval, we will make your web site live and the project is closed.

We can then make updates for you, from time-to-time, which you can request simply by sending us an e-mail. Updates are either charged against your remaining contracted time or billed at the going rate in 15 minute increments. You are also free to make your own changes and updates at no additional cost.

When does my service start, end/renew?
Your web site contract will begin once you have completed and submitted our Contact and Terms Of Service Form. Your contract is renewable each year by paying your renewal fee. If your web site is deactivated for any reason there will be a minimum re-activation fee of $50.00.

When will my site or updates be completed?
New web site designs are generally completed within 1 month from receipt of your material(s). Updates to your site are usually completed within 3 days from receipt of your material, depending upon the complexity of the updates and if there is a backlog.

All web site work and updates are scheduled and completed in the order they are received. During peak times, significant delays may occur. Remember, we confirm all communications via e-mail with your primary contact. If we did not confirm receipt of materials, we did not get them and completion of your request will be delayed.

How do I cancel the service?
Notice of cancellation should be faxed to 805-243-0471 or e-mailed to the contact address that was provided. Simply not paying or not responding to renewal notices does not release you from payment liability.

If I do some or all of my own designs and updates, what type of support can I expect?
We do not support or endorse any front end or FTP software such as Contribute, Front Page, DreamWeaver, etc., although you are free to use any web design client of your choosing. If you do your own updates or design, we will provide support for a failure of our web server only. Support and training are not provided on any aspect of design, HTML, FTP, software, etc.

How do I register my domain name?
We take care of this, start to finish, including all fees, DNS management, etc.

If I already have my domain name what do I need to do?
You can either transfer the domain to us or simply change the name servers on the domain. If you transfer to us, all fees, maintenance, renewals, etc. will be handled by us and you will be billed an additional $10 per year after the first year. If you have requested a transfer, we will apply for the transfer, one time. If your company does not own the domain name or the contact of record does not respond to the transfer request, additional attempts at transfer will be deducted from your support/design time.

How do I set up my e-mail addresses?
Just provide us with e-mail addresses and passwords for each. E-mail your list to the contact address that was provided.

Can you suggest the type of content I should provide?

Your company history and/or mission statement

Points of interest about your company

Upcoming events

Programs and services

Meeting minutes, financial statements, sales brochures, etc.

What if I do not get a timely response to my inquiry?

We answer all communications within 1 business day. Sometimes, due to issues out of our control, we may not receive your question, information, etc. If you do not get a response within 1 business day, we encourage you to page us. You can issue a page with a short message from http://support-files.com. Our primary concern is your satisfaction, and, although we do not encourage you to page us, if you are having an issue, please feel free to do so. You will also find some very helpful information at http://support-files.com and we encourage you to check the site often as we make updates frequently.

Do you offer a guarantee?
We strive for 100% customer satisfaction, and, as such, offer the following guarantee. Since the main part of a web site is the design, we offer a 100% money back guarantee up to the time you approve the design. Should you be dissatisfied with your design, we reserve the right to either provide another design or refund your money, in full. Once you approve the initial design, our guarantee extends only to the proper display and functioning of every page of your design within Internet Explorer and Firefox, although other browser will work as well. Should your web site’s functionality be compromised due to something directly under our control, we reserve the right to correct the issue in a timely manner or refund your current service fees as appropriate. Please note that if you need additional services, do not hesitate to ask. We can customize our services to fit almost any need including content management, e-commerce, php programming, mailing lists, contact forms, search engine optimization, marketing and much more.

125 Web Design reserves the right to change the terms and conditions at anytime and for any reason. We also reserve the right to refuse service to anyone for any reason. Should we choose to refuse service, we will refund any monies paid on a pro-rated basis.
